How to document a backend project

Sample content: Replace this article with your own writing before sharing the portfolio.

A strong case study starts with a real problem. Describe who needed the system, what constraints mattered, and what success would look like.

Explain the architecture

Show the request path, core data model, and important boundaries. A small diagram can make the design easier to understand than a long list of technologies.

Discuss the tradeoffs

Why did you choose this storage model, API shape, or deployment pattern? Mention the alternatives you considered and the costs of your choice.

Show evidence

Add tests, performance measurements, reliability improvements, or a working demo. If you cannot measure an outcome, explain what you learned without inventing a number.
